Bettie and her three children were persecuted in Sri Lanka because of their faith and ethnicity. The persecution came to a head when people from the majority ethnic group destroyed their home. A few days later, Bettie’s husband disappeared, and there’s been no sign of him since.
While still in Sri Lanka, the Bettie and her children were able to move in with another family for a short time, but the father of that family started to harass them and forced them to move out. With nowhere else to go to, and still facing persecution, they decided to escape to Thailand. They are currently in the process of working towards resettlement in new, safe county. Because they left, if they were to return to Sri Lanka, they would experience even more intense persecution from the government.
